They have a deep purple color and have the light inclusions often found in these stones. They are very attractive and the stones are classic for Mexican Jewelry. They are highly polished and in excellent condition. Felipe Martinez started his shop “Piedra y Plata” (Stone and Silver) in Taxco in 1950. He was a sculptor and his work reflected that in his appreciation of the stone, and the artistic result of the combination with silver. His company received praise from Spratling who said that the company was “producing some distinguished results.” Although well received the production never reached a large volume and was relatively brief, for these reasons the pieces are rare.
